Earn Your Strips

Double Trouble: Earn Your Strips

What a fun challenge: first make b&w strips then throw in 3 colors. I used a homemade zebra stencil with black glitter paste. Once dry trimmed that down. Layered that piece on green cs with hot pink dots. White base cs is made by putting a few drops of hot pink re-inker on glass mat sprayed with water and a dry fan brush dipped in color then brushed across dry card. I would love to tell the splatter dots on the base and zebra piece were planned but they are the consequence of spraying water on re-inker with other things in close proximity. Sentiment was cut on Silhouette in reverse on label maker paper then yellow foil place on exposed sticky then run through Circuit to seal. The words were then run through Xyron to add adhesive. I have found that with delicate cuts the image needs burnish from both side before removing front plastic and backing. Even with this you may have strings of adhesive where you don’t want them, so use a straight pen, before you place it on your project, to gently pull the excessive glue away.

Here is the jpg of my zebra image, I made in creating the stencil, for your use. I like to use Grafix Clear-Lay Plastic Film in.005 thickness to cut my stencils. It is clear, very thin (so cuts easily but still enough relief for effect when using pastes), tough and durable. Really stands up to repeated use and cleaning.

  1. Love that you made your own zebra stripe stencil…I’ve done them with my cricut. Love the brush lines on the background and the splatters of color, doesn’t look like a mistake at all…and the glitter hug and red dots really put a beautiful final touch on your card. Thanks for sharing with us at Double Trouble, but you forgot to share with ColorMyHeart Color Dare too, our partner. I would have let you know sooner but with the Christmas Holiday preparations and visits I’m just getting around to commenting.
