Beetle for New Years?

With the wind blowing and the temperature at about the same number, 40, I spent some time today at The Graphic Fairy only to find this fun creature. The note below this free image states: “This is a quirky little Antique New Year Card! Here we have a funny brown Beetle in the Snow, carrying a branch of Mistletoe. I’m not sure what Beetles have to do with the New Year, but I thought this one was kind of cute!” Here is the link to the image.

For the card I used a very long ago created bg, so I don’t know how I did it. Sponged embossing pad through star stencil then heat set that in gold. After I printed the image on tissue paper I glued it on the bg. Added details with color pencil, like extending the horizon across the piece and grounding the beetle. Used a swirl stamp to stamp the top and bottom of my banner in black ink then hand drew in the sides with black gel pen, adding black enamel dots. Used the cap of the pen, dipped it in the embossing pad, pressed that into image then heat set gold for my circles. Sponged buckskin color ink around edges then rubbed with black ink pad. Mounted on dry embossed colored cs then mounted on white cs base.

Sounds like a lot but it actually went together very quickly and sure took my mind of hearing the wind howl. Thanks for spending your time with me, now I am sharing this with:

  2. The background you created is so awesome. I struggle with bugs unless they are cartoon cute. I’m sure he is great, but I was definitely drawn to the great background.
