My interpretation of die cut brush strokes

I have been seeing this style of die cuts in many lines here recently so I wanted to create my own. This started as a Silhouette purchase design of #290234. I played with the pieces (welding some and creating holes in others) till I have the above die cuts. Using Oxide sprays to color the pieces I attached them together then mounted on black strip with sentiment stamped in versa mark then heat set in white embossing powder. The bg is from my stash and so old I don’t even remember making it. Adding the netting layer was to add depth plus fit the challenge sketch.

Tip: Learned that white gesso is for covering when all else fails. The base of this flower was white that I sprayed with brown but got way too much spray. I thought it was headed for the trash but then remember the lesson above. Once coated lightly with thin white gesso it became quite useable. The other lesson about mixed media was that you are one more addition to perfection so don’t stop till you are happy.

  1. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog, Bonnie. As I’ve been using things from my stash, I’ve had to re-evaluate my ‘hoarding’ tendencies! My stash has crept from the craft room to the dining room table to the den and has filled two large bookcases which I emptied by donating all the paperback books the family had gathered over a decade. I could craft for another 2 years without buying new supplies and still have plenty left! 😀
    I had to come by and see what you had submitted at Double Trouble (since we are neighbors there – :-D) and I have to say that the dimension and the texture are fantastic!

  9. Fantastic way to make your floral design. I guess I had not seen or heard of this type of way to use die cut designs. Adding the netting really adds to the texture of the design too!

  10. Great card and the netting is perfect on it. I’d say mixed media is keep going until you’re happy, then stop! I love that you work with the Silhouette designs and make them into what you want them to be. You are a very creative and wonderfully talented woman.
