Who let the moose out? This is 60 lb. white cs cut on the Silhouette. The trees are meant to be cut 4 times and glued or cut twice and machine sewed up the center. You know the rebel I am, I cut it twice and ran the thin line of white glue down the center, allowed to dry and fanned out the design. This way it lays flat for postage or for stashing away till next year and no sewing involved. The design is #50769 at the Silhouette Store. I purchased this last year when the designed were 50% off and never got it cut. So glad there were several challenges that this fit so that I would give it a go.

Five Ideas for getting better Silhouette cuts:

  1. Make sure the tip of your blade does not extend beyond the thickness of the paper. Take the blade holder out of the cutter, and lay the tip of the blade along the edge of the paper. Is the tip length longer than the thickness? If so twist in until it is not. When re-installing the blade make certain the groove on the housing of the blade is exactly facing you and locked in correctly.
  2. Always use the test and make adjustment in pressure till it cuts smooth, it may require several tests and even take two passes with slightly less pressure. If it still is dragging, this is probably a paper your machine just does not like. Move on to one it does and save that precious paper for other projects.
  3. Use your scrapper to make sure your paper is imbedded in the cutting mat.
  4. Find a paper that your machine likes and stick with it. I find creative ways to use this white 60 lb. cs. Cutting 3 or 4 layers and stacking them, adding modeling paste on cut outs, heat embossing to look like metal.
  5. Never underestimate the value of a new blade or clearing the one you have of debris. If your mat is not sticky enough, clean it or invest in a new one.

  14. Bonnie, this is beautiful! Thanks for sharing all your tips, too. I generally increase the depth of the blade to make sure it gets all the way through, hadn’t thought about it dragging. I’ll check that next time. I also love that you didn’t sew the center, but made it work your way. You are one smart cookie!
