Vellum Embossing

I used a 3D embossing folder and light weight cream vellum to emboss. Sprayed purple shimmer spray on the back. Once dry I put the vellum through Xyron and mounted on copy paper.  Then I swiped my black ink pad across front and while ink was still wet I heat set clear embossing powder. Because I lost some of the details, I swiped a white ink pad and heat set again in clear. Fussy cut around detail of the embossing and used two sided adhesive to add fun foam backing then mounted on card base with black stamped sentiment. 

Tip: When using Xyron adhesive to embossed vellum I don’t fuss to much about the vellum cracking. The adhesive does a great job of getting the valleys and cracked bits to stick but not glue down the peaks or lose the texture too much. This would be fun to add color burst or multi shimmer spray colors to see what effects the vellum does. With the clear embossing the vellum now feels like a soft leather. I found it quite interesting that the flow of the texture took me in a direction where this cut out looks like a curtain drawn back. That was never my intention and only noticed the effect when I was taking picture. 

The gals over at CAS Mix Up invited me to be a guest designer this month and I am so pleased. I hope my unique take on their challenge is as meaningful to them as it is to me.

  2. Well without reading your details I would never have believed this was vellum It looks really great and you are right it does have the effect of drawn back curtain. It sure took the colour well and the shine is amazing.

  3. Interesting background and vellum. The close up shows so much detail and color. Yes, I can see the drawn back curtain however my brain is interpreting an upside down vase. It could be one of those days. Love all your tips, Bonnie.

  13. I can see what you mean about a curtain drawn back, but to me, it looks like the back of a head, as one of the swirls looks a bit like an ear. I like it, no matter what it resembles. The embossing on the vellum is really pretty. Your idea about the shimmer sprays would definitely be fun to try.

    Your vellum embossing card is amazing! It’s wonderful that you used both dry embossing and heat-embossing for your vellum piece. Using Xyron for vellum is such an interesting and effective way. The vellum piece does look like a beautiful curtain!
