CAS Mix Up: Gesso Resist

I love new challenges and playing with gesso as a resist is new for me. Here I added white gesso through a butterfly stencil on Text Vellum. Once dry I smacked it on color burst in pink and then orange. Added splatters of the orange and a thin coat of clear gesso for a sheen. Cut the aperture sentiment on the Silhouette in layering weight twice and then layered these onto the gesso piece then all on white cs base.
Here is the aperture/sentiment I created in a jpeg if you would like to use it. Better hurry, USA mothers day is a week from today.
This is the second attempt at the gesso resist and this time used clear gesso. Once dry sprayed with mixed media shimmer in a blue. The butterflies took the color of that shimmer but resisted the other water colors I added by smacking. However, I used too much color and the bg became muddy. Broke the color up with a dry embossing. And still was not happy so I tried to correct this by using a bg of color burst mixed with clear gesso on cs for a layer. On some level it works ok.

These are both pretty. I have never used gesso, so have no idea how the resist would work. I do have a small amount to use with Gelatos. I will pull it out and give it a try, hopefully soon.

Very cool backgrounds. I ordered white and clear gesso. I’ll be emailing you for what to do with it or searching your blog for your applications. LOL Beginner 101!

Cool thing is you are only new once, from then on you are right up there with the rest of us and using experience and shear amusement to continue.

As per normal you have created something wonderful. Your imagination and creativity grows by leaps and bounds. I’ve never done a gesso resist but as you know I have used it in other ways.

The white seems to work better for this than the clear.

Two fabulous cards using gesso resist Bonnie!! So happy you gave this a try for the first time because of our challenge! LOVE the first card … because those are my happy colours!
