Mixed Media in the Tropics

Challenges
Sunday Stampers: Tropical Vibes
Allsorts: Showers
Little Red Wagon: April Showers

I knew this was going to have the sky line with yellow and orange, so used shimmer sprays first in the top left corner of a white Text Vellum paper. Then sponged even more orange with ink pad. Next came the two greens that are stamped on the edges. Blue is the ink pad smooched on stamp block then used wet brush to water color along grass. I added white gel pen to add the effect of light shining through the rain, but really it covers a splotch of a fat finger covered in blue ink. The rain drops are my stencil with clear transfer gel left to dry. The leaf tag is hand drawn and cut out of vellum then added Silhouette cut sentiment. Mat and layered on copy paper with blue copic colored edge and smaller one is white copy paper. Mounted all on white cs base.

Tip: Never stop learning. I am taking the Spring Card Camp with the gals at Online Card Classes . It has offered many ideas, some straight out of the session and some I find I am piggy backing on. The idea used here was to layer several of your die cut sentiments on a vellum tag. Nothing new with that, but the kicker for me was to add another layer of the sentiment to the back of the tag. This gives it that little lift and something to glue to.

  1. I’m with Jan on this one. It is awesome and your rain is so realistic. Love everything about this card and agree that we should never stop learning. Suspect your tip of putting the sentiment underneath the tag as well as on top is a Jen Mcguire one.

  2. Great tropical card! Your leaves look like they are blowing in the rain. Great cover up of the ink splotch; looks like all the white was planned. Love your greeting on (and under) your vellum leaf; I also saw that tip in Channin’s class and was thinking I should try it.

    1. Thanks so much. Her class was so fun but now I am playing with my homemade embossing paste and glitter. She really got me going in an other direction.

  3. Love this card. Glad you are learning new ideas in the class. I would not have thought that you hand cut and drew the leaf. It looks like a die.

  4. I kind of cheated. Stamped the leaf then drew around several times till it was a good size. Thanks for getting me to the class and for the support on this card.
