The Paper Players: Heat Embossing

My brother-in-law has a birthday coming up and he is a star gazer hence the galaxy idea. I used sponge with ink and glycerin to create colors on white cs. Swiped versa mark across embossing folder and sent through Cuttlebug. Added tinsel embossing powder then heat set. Trimmed to fit on yellow cs then added pp strip. Punched a few stairs from silver ribbon and attached.

How I used the glycerin was to let a few drops hit the glass mat, smeared the three colors in separate areas close by. Then rub the make up brush in the glycerin and mix that well into the yellow and then sponge that in the center of the white piece. Wiped excess yellow on napkin then went to hot pink, mixing more glycerin if needed, then to the piece. Followed that with the dark blue with a little purple mixed in. Washed the brush with warm soapy water and let dry. The glycerin really did help with the blending and not having the colors mix. This really makes me happy because I have resisted buying tons of product for this very purpose. I can use my existing ink pads and get results I am happy with.

  1. Yep – who knew glycerin would work this way – only our Bonnie mind would think about this and then try it. Love the card too. I do like purple and yellow together.

  2. I love that you are not only an awesome maker but a scientist, too! Love your night sky…it’s like a supernova. I’m going to get a book and start writing down all of your diy discoveries, Bonnie. Your brother in law should love his birthday card.

  3. Thanks so much you guys but you give me way too much credit. I am very scotch and don’t have room for much stuff. That makes me highly motivated. Thanks to heaven for the internet and technique videos.

  5. Bonnie this galaxy-inspired background is out of this world! Such a great blend of colours and I love the reverse-embossed birthday sentiment too – a great example of another way to use heat embossing that I’m sure your star-gazing BIL will love. Thanks for sharing with us over at The Paper Players this week!
